Breast cancer survivors Ardell Sharpe and Marnie Hawken have maintained a keen interest in the medical condition that started their friendship.
Both women keep up-to-date with breast cancer issues even though their cancers are now in remission.
``I am really interested in what's happening and in what will happen down the track," Mrs Sharpe, of Fairy Meadow, said.
``I have a six-month-old granddaughter and I hope by the time she grows up that breast cancer illnesses will be a thing of the past."
Mrs Sharpe and Mrs Hawken also love hearing other people's courageous accounts of their personal experiences with breast cancer.
``There is a lot of inspiration that comes from people sharing their stories," she said.
Mrs Hawken, of Bellambi, said she was interested in learning more about the cancer in order to gain better control of her life. She also wanted more information on complementary therapies.
Both women are part of the Illawarra Breast Cancer Support Group which is staging an information seminar in Wollongong: Living Well, Taking Control - Life After Breast Cancer.
The seminar on Friday, June 23, will feature many speakers including medical oncologist Dr Jodi Lynch, Wollongong University psychologist Dr Beth Marlow and Breast Screen NSW counsellor Beverly Hunt.
The opening address will be given by breast cancer survivor Yvonne Claypole, who recently returned with her husband Jim from living for a year in isolation in Antarctica.
The seminar will be held at Wollongong Town Hall from 9am to 4.30pm including morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Cost is $25 per person.
Registrations are essential and can be made by contacting Sister Gloria Swift at the Warilla Community Health Centre.
